Week 3
Our third week in Buenos Aires was the first day we were able to get a “day off.” A few of us girls decided to venture out to a popular and culture-rich neighborhood called Caiminito, known to be home to the fútbol team Boca. The neighborhood is filled with color-blocked buildings and street vendors. We were lucky enough to go on a beautiful sunny day. We were able to buy some local art, food, and explore all the fun things this artsy town had to offer!
This week, we also went to visit the Evita Museum. Evita Perón is such an iconic and historical figure in Argentina, so learning about her work and life was imperative to our experience. She was loved by most for her advocacy and social work to her country.
Additionally, Vane (our guide) took us on a walking tour around the city where we saw the Obelisk and visited some distinguished book stores, and another cathedral in La Plata.
Lastly, we finished the week visiting Villa Ocampo. Villa Ocampo was a former home of one of the most famous cultural figures of Argentina, Victoria Ocampo. She is considered one of the most feminist icons in their history known for being the founder and director of Sur Magazine, advocate for women, and intellectual. She came from a well-known wealthy family and made her mark through her controversial viewpoints against patriarchal orthodoxy and going against traditional expectations of women.
